Katarina Wit first started skating at age five. She was able to prove her skill and was accepted into a Karl-Marx-Stadt Special School for gifted kids. It was here that she got to know the coach of her choice, Jutta Muller. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt caught the eye of all and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. A more competitive contest four years later, Witt took home the medal. Witt actually fell short of the free skating contest, however she won the gold medal on her performance in the mandatory figures as well as the short-form program. Witt was the first female to win in both women's and men's figure-skating since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career as an actor. While she was not able to get a medal, she enchanted her audience despite placing seventh. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
